Last night artist Elizabeth Barlow presented outgoing San Francisco Opera conductor, Nicola Luisotti with a Portrait in Absentia, commissioned by the San Francisco Opera. What a glorious night it was for all in attendance, as the audience, artists, friends and new "family" bid the conductor farewell following his final performance of La Traviata.
Barlow created "Portrait of a Conductor' in oil on linen, by composing images of objects that represent Luisotti and his time at the marvelous Bay Area institution. Her very contemporary portraits tell stories of people through the placement of impeccably painted objects and their cast shadows, rather then faces.
Here are a few images of the glorious evening at the San Francisco Opera. October 17, 2017.
